Limited Editions Newsletter #2: Something Wonderful

Here at Limited Editions, we strive to give you the best information, comics selection, and customer service. To that end, we gave our manager and senior editor, LE | Luis, the job of keeping our patrons up to date on the comings and goings of our establishment, as well as some hot gossip in the comic book industry as a whole.

Kept you waiting, huh? Turns out time flies when you stop paying attention to it, and it certainly did, as April just flew by. These next two months are gonna be PACKED though, so let's take a look.

First and foremost, in case you didn't see it,

WONDER GIRL #1 CARDSTOCK FOIL DELUXE EXCLUSIVE

Coming May 18th! This gorgeous Rafael Grampá cover for DC Future State's Wonder Woman will be arriving with us!

Grampá has done some incredible art, most notably on DKR 4, and as a long-time (not biased) fan of his, this is his best work yet.

Make sure to hit us up to sign up for one.

Heck, grab two.

(We'll also have a good chunk of the J Scott Campbell 1:25s as well if you want to ask about those 🤫)

SURVEY

We want to hear from you! If you're a regular around these parts (and even if you're not), please take some time to fill out this quick Google survey. Asking some questions regarding your interests in comics, stuff you'd like to see around the shop, etc. We ran it past our staff and it doesn't take more than ten minutes.

And of course, thank you for participating.

If you participate, your name might be thrown in a raffle of sorts coming soon..

HEY I'M JUST CALLING TO ASK IF YOU HAVE THE BATMAN FORTNITE COMIC

In case you didn't hear, the "Batman/Fortnite collab" launched to massive, last second hype. And comics, well, they aren't built to be fast. To shed a little light on the situation, by the time issue 1 was released, the Final Order Cutoff for issues 2, 3, and 4 were past, as well as the 2nd print of #1. That's NUTS.

Fortnite is the biggest shooter in the world, and you threw all of those kids into the tiny comic book industry with its finite amount of comics. Real quick, let's do a lightning round.

How many people asked to add Batman Zero Point to their pulls before FOC? Three.

How many people asked to add Batman Zero Point to their pulls the day before release? Ten.

How many people waited in line for Batman Zero Point #1? More than ten.

How many calls did we receive asking for Batman Zero Point #1/#2? More than twenty on each release date.

How many issue 1s did we order? Less than 30. We really didn't think anyone would want to read it, and apparently neither did any other shop in the country.

How many times, upon being told that it was sold out, did someone ask if we could just make more? Unfortunately, more than one.

Apparently each issue comes with a digital code (issue 1 comes with a Harley Quinn skin) which made everyone go ballistic. We were able to accommodate our pull members (it's important to sign up!) but for walk-ins, it was an unlucky day.

Either way, it was an interesting case study for two radically different bases where the information they need and care about is diametrically opposed to who has it, as well as showing how flimsy the comics distribution model is when placed under stress.

Anyway, if anyone needs me, I'll be in the back printing digital codes.

TO CATCH A PREDATOR

Predator #1, solicited by Marvel Comics for release in June, was officially canceled, including all the sweet variant covers supposed to go out in May. Unofficially, they have told retailers to expect the book out in November. Why?

Surprise, I found a way to talk about comics distribution again!

Rumor has it that due to the success of Alien #1 (400k issues sold), Marvel is waiting until they have moved their distribution to Penguin in order to have a surefire hit with their new partners. Their other two summer events, the Avengers' Heroes Reborn and the X-Men's Hellfire Gala, would suffer by being pushed back, it seems.

Two weeks later, the news dropped that the brothers who wrote the original Predator are suing Disney over the rights to their film.

These two events are probably not connected, and I am not a lawyer so I can't say whether the latter is affecting the former. These two events are simply happening simultaneously, and they are likely not affecting each other.

Buuuuuuuut

JUNE SOLICITS

Got a lot of new titles coming up in June, the cutoffs are coming up so make sure to add them to your pull ASAP. Got a few one-shots like the Green Arrow 80th Anniversary special, Marvel's Voices Pride and DC Pride for Pride Month, Spawn Universe, and the Demon Days follow-up for Mariko. Other titles include:

United States of Captain America | Mini | Christopher Cantwell (W) | Marvel Comics

Cantwell finally writing Captain America is a must-read for me after is Dr Doom and Iron Man runs

Batman: Reptilian | Mini | Garth Ennis (W) | DC Comics

Nice House on the Lake | ? | James Tynion IV (W) | DC Comics

Department of Truth, Batman, SIKTC, now this. It's probably gonna be great

Supergirl of Tomorrow | Maxi | Tom King (W) | DC Comics

Tom King doing a character that hasn't been in the spotlight for some time? Yeah I'm in.

Apex Legends: Overtime | Mini | Jesse Stern (W) | Dark Horse

Honestly I just like playing Apex

Wonder Woman: Black and Gold | Mini | Various | DC Comics

Gamma Flight | Mini | Al Ewing {W) | Marvel Comics

Checkmate | Mini | Brian Michael Bendis (W) | DC Comics

Finally the follow-up to Event Leviathan arrives. Pick up a trade if you haven't. The sell for me is Alex Maleev on art.

The Conjuring: The Lover | Mini | David Leslie-Johnson (W) | DC Comics

Batman: The Adventures Continue Season II | Mini | Alan Burnett, Paul Dini (W) | DC Comics

Basilisk | ? | Cullen Bunn (W) | Boom Studious

Cullen Bunn working for Boom Studios is a surefire hit

Infinite Frontier | Mini | Joshua Williamson | DC Comics

This might be the book to set the pace of DC for the foreseeable future

A lot of DC's titles are miniseries that are ending, so that's why these next two months are gonna be very big in terms of new titles, while Marvel has settled into a good chunk of ongoing so their summer doesn't have many new titles.

JULY SOLICITS

Some more titles were solicited for July recently, including the return of the Icon imprint at DC, a new X-Men #1, Moon Knight, Extreme Carnage, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle's new series, new Superman titles that look rather good, and more. Stay tuned for more details.

HOT COVERS!

There's a lot of variant covers! If you're like me, and you need them all, you better pay attention. Venom #200 has a lot of covers that are pretty cool, as well as the pride variants for both main publishers, but my favorite of the month has to be Russell Dauterman's 12-part connecting cover for the X-Men Hellfire Gala crossover. 12 titles, 12 variants, all summer fashion.

If you're interested in pulling this set, hit us up to sign up for all 12, and check this post out for a few more cool covers. Let us know if you're interested.

THE HONOR ROLL

We got our shipment in from CBCS that we submitted in early January.

Lot of good stuff came in! Some of the shipment was customer submissions (this could be you!) and the other half are for sale! My favorite slab was this Garcin ASM #700 that came back a solid 9.4, submitted by one of our pull members, Jaime C. Neat, huh?

Advantages of submitting to CBCS with Limited Editions:

1. slabs look nice

2. cheaper to submit

3. [secret]

4. signature verification! Yes, really!

We submitted another wave last week of March, and we're looking to submit again in early June. Based on the 3 month turnaround time of the last wave (accounting for holiday delays), if you want your book back before October, you'd better submit ASAP! Hell, submit that second Wonder Girl cover I told you to grab earlier. I know I probably will, as well as a few other books of my own.

Should be a little easier because...

LIMITED EDITIONS PARTNERS WITH COMIC BOOK COWBOY PRESSING AND CLEANING

Got a book that's bent or wavy?

Got an old dirty book that's been through the ringer?

Talk to Johnny at CBCCP to get your book taken a look at!

He's here to press out the kinks in your books, flatten them out, clean em up nice and get them nice and ready for CBCS submission with us, or just to display!

Hit him up on Instagram at @comic_bk_cowboy_cp and Facebook at Comic Book Cowboy Cleaning and Pressing (page goes live Sunday!), and use the code GUNSLINGER to get a little bump in the queue, a little gift from me to you. Tell him I sent you.

GRAPHIC NOVELS

We're stocking up on a lot of trade paperbacks! Keep an eye on our socials for posts and livestream to find something new! Most of the new arrivals are curated by me, and if you know me, you know I'm something of a critic myself, so you might get a kick. Ask me or the rest of our staff kicking up a new read, especially if you're enjoying Falcon and the Winter Soldier or WandaVision, or are hyped for Suicide Squad, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, Eternals, etc. And if we don't have it, we can order it, like the Sweet Tooth and Invincible compendiums. Ask us how!

POP PATROL (and other stuff)

The recently announced Avatar: The Last Airbender pops should arrive in July. Pretty excited for those.

We also have the really badass Immortal Hulk 6-inch pop coming in end of June.

This weekend, we put out some new 12x17 prints featuring artists like Artgerm, Frank Cho, Alex Ross, and more in nice toploaders. Hopefully you find some nice, affordable art to display.

RECENT READS

Beta Ray Bill was awesome! Definitely recommend picking that one up. Working on catching up on the X-Men line, as I'm excited for the Hellfire Gala and beyond.

On the indie front, I finally caught up with Kirkman's Fire Power, and it's quite a great read. If you're a fan of Kung Fu movies. Ask us to get you some trades if you're interested.

HOT COVERS

Batman has been great! Big fan of him. Bit of an unknown character, but I think he's gonna break big very soon.

Really though, Nightwing is one of my favorite books right now. Two issues in, and Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo are outdoing one of my favorites of last year, their own work on Suicide Squad (available in hardcover now!), which is quite good as well.

Q&A

We asked our regulars for some questions. You know how this goes.

"What's next for Venom???" - David L

This is my most fervent wish, as I am tired of Venom. Too much Venom in the last six years.

Honestly though, I wouldn't be surprised if a God of the Symbiotes mini got announced in the next six months.

Get Al Ewing to do it and it might be good.

"Which death in Halo Reach made you cry the hardest?" Joseph S

CLOSING

Hey. Glad you're still here, champ. Still have questions? Good, questions are how we make our collective society better, so please don't hesitate to ask them.

**For fans of Scott Snyder's new indie title Nocterra, shoot the words BLACK MIRROR to our DMs before Tuesday (5/12) and you may be in for a surprise. Space is limited, so I do hope you do it quickly**

Please participate on our survey if you can, it'd be a great help.

Don't forget to wish your mom a happy Mother's Day on Sunday.
